DIVERSE BUSINESS CLASSIFCATIONS as defined by Target:


    Minority-Owned Business Enterprise (MBE) is an independent business concern that is at least 51% owned and controlled by one or more minority group members who are U.S. citizens or Legal Resident Aliens, whose business formation and principal place of business are in the US or its territories, and whose management and daily operation are controlled by one or more of the minority owners.     Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE) is an independent business concern that is at least 51% owned and controlled by one or more women who are U.S. citizens or Legal Resident Aliens, whose business formation and principal place of business are in the US or its territories, and whose management and daily operation are controlled by one or more of the women owners.     Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and/or Transgender Owned Business Enterprise (LGBTBE) is an independent business concern that is at least 51% owned and controlled by one or more LGBT person or persons who are U.S. citizens or Legal Resident Aliens, whose business formation and principal place of business are in the US or its territories, and whose management and daily operation are controlled by one or more of the LGBT owners.     Veteran-Owned Enterprise (VOBE) is an independent business concern that is at least 51% owned and controlled by one or more veteran or service disabled veteran person or persons who are U.S. citizens or Legal Resident Aliens whose business formation and principal place of business are in the US or its territories and whose management and daily operation are controlled by one or more of the veteran or service disabled veteran owners.     Small Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (SDBE) is an independent business concern that is at least 51% owned and controlled by one or more socially and economically disadvantaged person or persons who are U.S. citizens or Legal Resident Alien, whose business formation and principal place of business are in the US or its territories, and whose management and daily operation are controlled by one or more of the socially and economically disadvantaged individual owners. Pre-qualification Criteria


Requirements- Target Corporation Supplier Diversity Initiative requires that you be registered with us as an identified or certified as diverse business enterprise for assistance from the Supplier Diversity team.


We accept certification from the following organizations:

  • National or Regional Minority Supplier Development Councils (NMSDC): www.nmsdc.org
  • Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC): www.wbenc.org
  • U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA): www.sba.gov
  • Veteran/Disabled Veterans: www.navoba.com
  • LGBT: www.nglcc.org
  • We accept self-certification (form is a download as part of the registration process)

Minimum Requirements:

  • History of successful projects
  • Financial stability (you may be asked to provide audited financial statements and a recent Dun & Bradstreet Supplier Evaluation report)
  • Understanding of Target Corporation’s business and practices
  • Ability to provide high quality, cost competitive goods
  • Electronic Data Interchange Capabilities (EDI)
  • Ability to participate in electronic strategic sourcing bids
  • Ability to meet all of Targets vendor requirements
  • Ethical business conduct
